Multiple people have been rushed to hospital after a shooting unfolded close to the University of Iowa campus during the early hours of Sunday morning. 

Officers were called after bullets were fired amid a large street fight on the 100 block of East College Street at 1.46am, according to Iowa City Police Department. 

The number of victims and extent of their injuries are unclear. Nobody has been arrested. 

Video shared on social media shows a mass brawl unfolding in Iowa City, five blocks away from the University of Iowa campus. 

Screaming rang out as several people threw punches at each other in the street. The footage then cut to a person being treated on the ground by EMTs. 

The University of Iowa issued a hawk alert for safety threats just before 3am, urging students to avoid the downtown area. 

‘Multiple victims have been taken to area hospitals to be treated for wounds suffered in the shooting,’ the Iowa City Police Department said. 

‘No information on their conditions is available at this time.’
