The former owners of Australia’s most expensive house were onboard a Flydubai flight subject to a suspected hijacking attempt.
Steven and Carol Moss were reportedly among the 174 passengers on Flydubai flight FZ1073 when an Omani man stabbed his co-pilot while midair from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday morning.
Passengers and crew wrestled the man after he attacked his colleague and seized control of the flight, which plummeted 14,000ft in just 29 seconds.
Captain Smit Machchhar had managed to open the cockpit door, despite his severe injuries, and let the brave passengers inside.
It is believed a British off-duty pilot was among the saviours.
Steven and Carol Moss, who built a fortune through the Katies fashion chain co-founded by Mr Moss’ late father, Sam Moss, were onboard according to The Australian.
The couple, who once sold their Scottish baronial mansion in Point Piper, east Sydney, to tech billionaire Scott Farquhar for $130million, are understood to be recovering from the ordeal.
They declined to comment when contacted by The Australian.

The Moss’ real estate portfolio has become legend in Sydney.
The couple sold one of the most expensive residences on the waterfront in Point Piper, known as Edgewater, in late 2020.
Edgewater had been bought by Mr Moss’ father, Sam, alongside his Katie’s co-founder, Joe Brender, for $5million in 1985.
A buyer agreed to spend $95million to acquire Edgewater from both families in 2020, making it the second-highest residential sale nationwide at the time.
Steven and Carol Moss also held the record for the highest residential sale for the sale of their $130million baronial mansion, Uig Lodge, in late 2022.
That record was only broken in 2025 when a rumoured $136.1million deal was made to sell Victoria’s most expensive home and a block of neighbouring apartments.
The Moss couple still hold the record for the most expensive individual house sale.
More to come…
