Mikel Arteta has agreed a new long-term contract with Arsenal which is set to take his tenure at the club beyond 10 years.

The 44-year-old, who led the Gunners to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, is already the longest serving boss in the top flight having been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019.

After taking the club from 10th position to league champions, as well as reaching the Champions League final, Arteta has been rewarded with a lucrative deal which will boost his current salary – which is worth up to £15million with bonuses.

It is also set to see him enter a decade at the Emirates, with the deal’s length still to be announced. His current terms expire next summer but this new agreement will shut down any speculation over his future.

Daily Mail Sport understands that talks began early in the year with confidence from both Arteta and Arsenal for months that a new contract would be agreed.

CEO Richard Garlick last month said Arteta’s future at the club will be ‘resolved very shortly’, adding: ‘Mikel wants to be at Arsenal and we want Mikel at Arsenal. It’s only a matter of time before we put that into a new contract.’

Arteta said last week: ‘They (the fans) don’t have to worry about any of that (contract talks) because I want to be here.

‘I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.’

The Spaniard was already the Premier League’s highest paid manager, yet his new terms could put him among the most well-paid bosses in world football.

It’s been previously reported that only Al-Hilal’s Simone Inzaghi and Atletico Madrid‘s Diego Simeone were on bigger pay-packets than Arteta, which are £22.34m and £20.19m respectively.
