“To me, my X-Men.” That iconic line has echoed through comic books and theaters for decades, yet the on-screen team has not assembled since Fox’s 2019 film Dark Phoenix. The Fox era will conclude with Avengers: Doomsday, where legacy actors like Patrick Stewart and Halle Berry will cross over into the MCU before bowing out.

Marvel Studios is now preparing a full reboot, with Kevin Feige announcing the inaugural mutant team at D23. 

Inde Navarrette as Rogue

Inde Navarrette earned critical acclaim for her breakout performance as Nikki Freeman in Obsession, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Critics highlighted her ability to convey fear, resilience, and emotional complexity in her first major horror role. This depth positions her well for Rogue.

A character defined by her struggle to control her power-absorbing abilities while yearning for human connection. Navarrette’s prior work in Superman & Lois and 13 Reasons Why further demonstrates her range in portraying guarded yet vulnerable figures. 

With Navarrette set to embody Rogue’s internal conflict, the next announcement reveals who will lead the team as Professor X.

Christopher Abbott as Professor X

Christopher Abbott, known for his intense performances in Possessor and Kraven the Hunter, steps into the role of Professor Charles Xavier. His filmography showcases a talent for portraying intellectually driven characters with hidden emotional turmoil. Abbott’s capacity to convey quiet authority alongside psychological complexity could redefine Xavier as a leader grappling with moral dilemmas and personal sacrifice. 

As Abbott prepares to guide the next generation of mutants, another major casting choice brings a formidable villain into the mix.

Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister

Adam Driver, recognized for his commanding roles in Marriage Story and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, will portray the sinister geneticist Mr. Sinister. Driver’s ability to oscillate between charm and menace makes him an ideal fit for Nathaniel Essex, a character defined by manipulation and cold calculation.

His theatrical background adds gravitas, suggesting a villain who is both intellectually terrifying and physically imposing. This casting signals Marvel’s intent to present Sinister as a central, long-term threat. 

With Sinister’s dark presence established, the team’s weather-controlling powerhouse rounds out the core lineup.

Maya Boyd as Storm

Maya Boyd, a rising talent with credits in independent dramas and stage productions, takes on the iconic role of Storm. Her background in character-driven narratives suggests a portrayal focused on leadership, grace, and inner strength. Boyd’s ability to convey regal composure alongside raw emotion aligns with Storm’s dual identity as both a goddess-like figure and a compassionate teammate. This casting promises a nuanced exploration of Ororo Munroe’s heritage and power. 

With the core team assembled, Marvel also revealed key supporting mutants who will shape the future of the franchise.

Sadie Sink as Jean Grey

Sadie Sink will portray Jean Grey, the Omega-level telepath whose power rivals even Professor X. Sink first appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where her character was reimagined as a foster system product with mind-leaping abilities and a vendetta against the Department of Damage Control.

Her performance in Stranger Things showcased her ability to balance vulnerability with fierce determination, qualities essential for Jean’s journey from student to cosmic-level threat. Sink’s casting continues Marvel’s strategy of introducing X-Men characters through existing MCU projects.

As Jean Grey’s psychic potential grows, the team’s field leader steps forward to guide them in battle.

Kit Connor as Cyclops

Kit Connor steps into the role of Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, the tactical leader of the X-Men. Connor is best known for his lead role as Nick Nelson in the Netflix series Heartstopper, where he portrayed a gentle, emotionally intelligent character navigating identity and relationships.

His ability to convey quiet strength and moral clarity aligns with Cyclops’ role as the team’s strategic commander and moral anchor. Connor’s casting suggests a youthful yet grounded interpretation of the optic-blast-wielding mutant.

With Cyclops leading the charge, one more key mutant joins the roster to complete the founding team.

Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

Samara Weaving will portray Emma Frost, the powerful telepath and former villain known as the White Queen. Weaving gained recognition for her roles in Nine Perfect Strangers and The Babysitter, where she demonstrated a knack for playing complex, morally ambiguous characters.

Her ability to balance charm with cunning makes her an ideal fit for Emma Frost, a character who oscillates between ally and adversary. Weaving’s casting hints at a layered exploration of Frost’s motivations and her relationship with the X-Men.
