Mandy Moore got into a little mischief with Macaulay Culkin while they shot 2004 film, Saved!, together.
The actress, 42, revealed in the Wednesday, May 27 episode of Evan Ross Katz’ Netflix show, Shut Up, Evan, that she drank alcohol with Culkin, 45, despite being underage at the time.
“I do remember a little bit of underage drinking,” she said. “As it happened, I was like, ‘Look, I didn’t go to high school.’ I was 18.”
The teen comedy was filmed in Canada’s British Columbia, where the legal drinking age is 19.
Culkin was older than many of the teen actors in the Saved! cast, which also included Jena Malone and Eva Amurri, and was legally able to drink.
“I think it was Mac, Macaulay, that introduced me and all of us to a White Russian,” Moore recalled. “I was like, ‘Milk and alcohol? This is made for me, I love this! This is like ice cream, this is fantastic!’”
During the chat, Moore noted that although a lot of the cast members were young, they didn’t cause too much trouble together.
“I distinctly remember the sweet, innocent — like, we would take giant marshmallows and throw them at people off the balcony,” she said. “We were kids! We weren’t really getting up to no good.”
Reflecting on the memories forged on-set with her costars, Moore praised the filming experience and the movie’s storyline.
“It was a crazy, crazy life-changing experience,” she said.

In Saved!, Moore played Hilary Faye, the best friend of the film’s main character, Mary (portrayed by Malone). Mary tries to “save” her boyfriend from being gay, only to become pregnant along the way.
“I just loved the script and the character, and I thought it was really irreverent and funny, and also like gonna move the needle. But it also felt so wholly different than who I am that I was like, ‘Oh this is a stretch, and this is unlike anything I’ve done before. So hopefully, very intentionally, this’ll open up a door to other projects,’ like people regarding me in a different light,” Moore added.
In June 2024, the This Is Us alum shared similar sentiments about what it was like working on the movie during an interview with People.
“I’m bombarded with memories of set. We all were staying at the same hotel together while we were shooting, and I just remember all the time we would spend with each other in one another’s rooms. Like, ‘Okay, we’re all going to Jena’s room today.’ Or, ‘Oh, we’re all going to Eva’s room today, or Mac’s room,’ and we made dinners or we ordered food and we just hung out,” she told the outlet.
The actress added, “It was like we were all 17, 18 years old, maybe some of us were a little bit older, but it was such a fun summer camp experience. And we knew that it was a really weird, special, little tiny thing. It wasn’t lost on us what we were doing.”
