Mason Mount was forced off with an injury during Manchester United’s friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.

The midfielder has been one of United’s standout performers in pre-season, but his latest appearance was cut short after he was substituted just 20 minutes into the match in Gothenburg and replaced by Tyler Fletcher.

Mount spoke to three members of the medical staff before heading down the tunnel and appeared to be experiencing a problem with his foot. The 27-year-old was able to jog off when his number was shown, suggesting the decision may have been precautionary.

Even so, Michael Carrick is unlikely to take any risks with the start of the new campaign rapidly approaching.

United, who qualified for the Champions League with their third-place finish last term, begin their season away at newly-promoted Hull in two weeks. They then host Ipswich and travel to Everton before Old Trafford stages the Manchester derby on September 13.

Mount, who joined United from Chelsea in a £60million deal in 2023, has struggled with injuries during his time at the club, making 72 appearances across three seasons.

Of the three seasons he has been at United, he made the most top-flight appearances last term with 23, averaging just 44 minutes per game.

In Sweden, United fell behind in the second minute when 18-year-old striker Ibrahim Mbaye buried his chance at the far post.

Bryan Mbeumo then levelled the scoring half an hour later. Amad Diallo won the ball and carried it forward before feeding Mbeumo to the left of the box, with the Cameroonian burying his shot into the far corner.

The scores were level heading into half-time.
