Major court twist for the married Perth music teacher who had a child with her Year 7 student

Two charges have been dropped for a married music teacher who confessed to sexually abusing a Year 7 student, before giving birth to his child.

Naomi Tekea Craig, 34, pleaded guilty to 15 child sex offences at Western Australia’s Mandurah Local Court in January over her abuse of the boy, which lasted about 14 months.

Charges included multiple counts of penetration of a child under 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, indecent dealings with a child under 13, and possessing child exploitation material.

She was later charged with a further seven offences, but the District Court heard on Friday that two of the new charges had been dropped.

Her lawyer, Michael Tudori, told the court there were ongoing discussions with the Crown about the outstanding charges, for which she is yet to enter a plea.

The court heard that pre-sentencing reports, including a psychiatric report, were in the final stages of preparation.

Craig has been on bail with strict conditions since her last court appearance in January.

She is banned from having contact with any children other than her newborn, including the victim and her older child.

Outside court, Mr Tudori told media: ‘Obviously, the conduct was over a period of time, we’re just fine-tuning what happened.’

She was initially charged with four offences, but more were added when DNA testing confirmed her victim fathered her newborn.

Craig’s relationship with the boy began on October 31, 2024, and ended on December 16, just days before her arrest.

She was about eight months pregnant with his child at the time.

Craig taught at Frederick Irwin Anglican School and was known to students and colleagues by her married name, Naomi Woods.

She was on maternity leave from December and gave birth to the child on January 8.
