Love Island USA Executive Producer James Barker Dead After Suffering Medical Emergency in Fiji
Love Island USA is paying tribute to one of their own.
After executive producer James Barker’s death at the age of 40, the show honored him on the June 16 episode with a touching moment of remembrance, featuring a photo montage of him enjoying music and sharing smiles.
“For James,” a message read at the end of the episode. “We love you.”
The tribute was set to the song “Next to Me” by Rüfüs Du Sol, including the lyrics, “When the lights come down, I wanna feel you standing next to me” and “Ever since I first looked in your eyes / I said, ‘You’re the one.'”
Barker, who had joined the show as a story producer in 2020, died after experiencing an “unexpected medical emergency” while filming season eight of Love Island USA in Fiji, ITV America and Peacock confirmed in a joint statement June 15.
“James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock,” the statement noted. “He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
