Liverpool vs Brighton is ON with club advising fans to take care when travelling… after Sunday’s Aintree race meeting was abandoned due to Storm Boelo

Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Brighton will go ahead despite Sunday’s race meeting at Aintree being called off due to the extreme weather.

Storm Boelo has wreaked havoc across the country over the weekend and there were concerns police may decide it was unsafe for fans to travel.

A yellow weather warning is in place across nearby Merseyside until 9pm on Sunday, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain and strengthening winds.

But the club have confirmed the clash will go ahead, as will the club’s Women’s Super League game against London City Lionesses.

‘Liverpool FC’s fixtures at Anfield and St Helens Stadium today will both go ahead as planned,’ read a club statement four hours before kick-off.

‘The men’s team host Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League and the women’s team are facing London City Lionesses in the Barclays Women’s Super League, with each kicking off at 2pm GMT.

‘Due to the very windy weather, please take care if you are travelling to either game, plan your journey in advance and give yourself extra time.

‘Club stewards will be on hand at both stadiums to assist supporters – please follow their guidance when you arrive.

‘We wish you safe travels and we look forward to welcoming you.’

Sunday’s race meeting at Aintree, just four miles from Anfield, was called off earlier this morning.

A statement from Aintree read: ‘Today’s Halloween Family Fun Day featuring the William Hill Old Roan Chase has been abandoned due to high winds caused by Storm Boelo.

‘Overnight wind speeds have reached 44mph, with the outlook for the day showing further significant winds until at least early afternoon.

‘While we are disappointed, the safety of our participants, visitors and teams is our No1 priority.’
