Pop icon Kylie Minogue has lifted the lid on what performing at the 2026 AFL grand final will mean to her and told her fans to expect an ‘electrifying’ show.

The 57-year-old was announced to be the headline act of the AFL’s showpiece match back in March and footy supporters have been eagerly anticipating her performance ever since.

Minogue has played at some of the biggest shows and venues in the world as she became one of the greatest pop stars Australia has ever produced, but starring before 100,000 people at the MCG will be a standout for her.

‘I’m wildly excited! Even speaking with you, the second you say it, I’m like, “[Gasps] September! It’s May!”‘ she told the Fifi, Fev & Nick radio show on Monday.

‘When I said yes, I was just like, “I’m going to do it… it’s ages away” but now it’s getting closer! 

‘It’s going to be electrifying.’

Minogue has pointed to the novelty behind performing at the AFL’s big day, with the ARIA award winner finally able to include the occasion on her résumé.

‘I’ve had a career of doing a lot of varied stuff but the AFL grand final, I have not done,’ she said.

Another thing Kylie has never done is publicly disclosed which AFL team she barracks for.

In 2014, Minogue said she has a soft spot for more than one club. 

‘I get it from my mother, she barracks for a few different teams,’ she said after being presented with a Geelong jumper at a fan event.

‘My brother is a staunch Bombers supporter and my sister’s little boy is Hawthorn.

‘But I’m Geelong today.’ 

Minogue has also been linked to the Lions after she performed at a Fitzroy Football Club benefit in 1986.   

Minogue’s appointment follows a series of high-profile gigs at the iconic sporting event.

American rapper Snoop Dogg headlined the 2025 decider, alongside Australian artists Tash Sultana and Baker Boy.

It was an A-list line-up in 2024 too, with American pop star Katy Perry headlining along with Tina Arena, Cody Simpson and Christine Anu.
