The ‘Song Sung Blue’ actress vied for Best Actress at the latest Academy Awards

Kate Hudson revealed she took a break after awards season.

The actress, 47, told PEOPLE that while the buzz surrounding her Best Actress Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue was “so fun,” she took the opportunity after the Academy Awards in March to decompress.

"I took spring break with my kids and I just shut everything down," she said at the premiere of Netflix's Running Point season 2 in Hollywood, Calif.

Hudson is mom to three children: sons Ryder Russell, 22, and Bingham Hawn, 14, as well as daughter Rani Rose, 7.

Hudson was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Claire "Thunder" Sardinia in in Song Sung Blue, a film about a Neil Diamond tribute band called “Lightning & Thunder.” She starred alongside Hugh Jackman, who played Mike "Lightning" Sardinia.

Hudson said she feels grateful for the friendships she's formed during awards season with her fellow nominees, which included Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Emma Stone (Bugonia), and Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), who took home the Oscar.

"In reflection, I'm so lucky that I got to be able to have that experience. And I loved everybody on the ride with them. All of the people that were on that journey were so awesome, so fun, so together, and I just loved everything," the Almost Famous star said.

Hudson's role as Isla Gordon in Running Point has also resulted in closer friendships for the star, including with executive producer Jeanie Buss. Buss is the CEO of the Los Angeles Lakers, and her story serves as real-life inspiration for Hudson's character on the show.

The pair's friendship goes back decades, and Hudson starred opposite Buss’ husband, Jay Mohr, in the film 200 Cigarettes.

Hudson reflected on how the relationship has evolved over the years.

"I think, not only is it wonderful, but I think we both do see the growth," Hudson said. "She was always someone that was very protective of me. She kind of put her arm around me and made sure I stayed out of trouble. But then to come back at this time in our life and have this experience together has been really, really wonderful and very, very cozy, I guess is the word."
