Kansas City Chiefs could make huge trade for AJ Brown after Rashee Rice is thrown in jail

The Kansas City Chiefs have been linked with a stunning move for AJ Brown after Rashee Rice was thrown in jail for breaking the terms of his probation this week.

Rice, 26, was sentenced to five years’ probation and 30 days of jail time last July over his 2024 hit-and-run crash on a Dallas highway. He was able to suit up for the Chiefs last season as the jail term was permitted to be served at any time over five years.

However, the wide receiver has now been ordered to serve the 30 days after he violated his probation by testing positive for marijuana, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.

Despite the fact he will be released on June 16, three months before the 2026 season gets underway, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer said on his show ‘The Breer Report’ that the Chiefs could trade for a new receiver amid uncertainty over Rice’s future.

And one potential option he brought up was Brown, the 28-year-old Super Bowl winner who wants out of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite expressing doubts over the trade happening, Breer suggested Kansas City could ‘circle back’ and target the Eagles wideout due to Rice’s latest run-in with the law, despite reportedly turning down a move for him already.

‘I think if you’re the Chiefs you have to look at all of these things going forward,’ he stressed about a potential move for Brown, ‘because Rashee Rice clearly looks like somebody you have not been able to rely on.’

After joining from Tennessee in 2022, Brown won the Super Bowl with the Eagles at the end of the 2024 season.

But he has frequently cut an unhappy figure in Philadelphia and last year’s frustrating offense under coordinator Kevin Patullo led to several outbursts.

Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots are believed to be the frontrunners to sign Brown, who played for the scandalized head coach at the Titans.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, talks between the Eagles and Patriots over the star receiver are set to continue around June 1.

That date is critical to talks because June 1 is when his $40 million salary cap charge gets split between this and next year.

The Eagles are also believed to have held talks with the Los Angeles Rams over a deal for Brown, but they didn’t lead to anything.

Amid ongoing speculation over his future, Brown made the most of the NFL offseason at the weekend as he finally married fiancee Kelsey Riley.

The couple enjoyed a luxurious California ceremony on Saturday at the jaw-dropping Montage Laguna Beach resort.
