Jim Harbaugh’s Attorney Reacts to Sherrone Moore Abortion Claim

The attorney for Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh responded to the allegation that Harbaugh aided a former University of Michigan staff member linked to ex coach Sherrone Moore in having an abortion.

Tom Mars, who represents Harbaugh, 62, issued a statement after journalist Justin Spiro incorrectly reported that Harbaugh — who was the head coach at Michigan from 2015 to 2023 — “helped arrange an abortion procedure” for Paige Shiver, the former Michigan football staff member whose years-long relationship with Moore, 40, eventually led to his termination last year.

“Don’t take this personally, but you should see a mental health specialist,” Mars said in a statement to Spiro.

Spiro seemingly misconstrued text messages uncovered in a Wall Street Journal report published on Tuesday, July 14, which indicated Harbaugh helped Shiver, 32, receive medical care while suffering from postpartum depression in the summer of 2022.

A new investigation revealed that the University of Michigan allegedly knew about former head coach Sherrone Moore’s relationship with staff member Paige Shiver for more than a year before Moore was terminated.  Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel wrote a handwritten note about Moore, 40, and Shiver, 32, in August 2024, two days before Moore’s first […]

“Mr. Harbaugh helped me get into the head person here,” Shiver texted Moore. “Don’t worry he doesn’t know everything and won’t.”

Spiro amended his story to say that Harbaugh was “unaware the assistance involved an abortion.”

Us Weekly has reached out to the Chargers for comment. Harbaugh did not respond to the Wall Street Journal’s request.

During an interview with Good Morning America in August, Shiver revealed she became pregnant with Moore’s baby during the course of their affair. Shiver decided to terminate the pregnancy after doctors informed her the baby was diagnosed with Pompe disease, a genetic disorder that weakens muscle strength.

Shiver alleges that Moore was aware of the pregnancy and supported her having the abortion.

Moore has been married to his wife, Kelli, since 2015 and the couple share three daughters.

Shortly after Moore was fired by the University of Michigan after Shiver provided evidence of their relationship, he allegedly broke into her home and threatened to harm himself in front of her.

Moore was arrested on the same day and charged with felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering. All three of those charges were later dropped.

In March, Moore pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of malicious use of a telecommunications device in context of a domestic relationship and trespassing. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation.

The Wall Street Journal’s report alleges the University of Michigan was aware of Moore and Shiver’s relationship for more than a year before Moore was fired.

Paige Shiver, who accused former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore of breaking into her apartment after coming forward about their “inappropriate relationship,” has sued the school.  Shiver, 32, accused the university of intentionally violating the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, which is designed to help people find and review public records. In […]

“I told him I didn’t remember if we had already discussed, but that she couldn’t accompany him on trips,” athletic director Warde Manuel allegedly wrote in a letter in August 2024, referencing Moore and Shiver.

In a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, July 15, Moore’s attorney Ellen K. Michaels said, “Until the University of Michigan publicly releases the Jenner & Block [law firm] report and issues its official statement, we have no comment on selective excerpts or summaries of an unpublished report. Mr. Moore’s criminal case has been adjudicated and concluded.”

A university spokesperson told Us on Wednesday that the school “promptly terminated former head football coach Sherrone Moore on Dec. 10, 2025, upon learning of his undisclosed workplace relationship with a direct report.”

“Moore’s conduct violated university policy, and we expect more from our leaders,” the spokesperson added. “Because this matter is the subject of pending litigation, the university will not comment further on issues related to that relationship.”
