The agent of Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr and Monaco’s Lamine Camara has launched a scathing attack on football clubs after his players failed to secure a move on deadline day.

Sarr and Camara’s agent Diomansy Kamara, who previously played for Portsmouth, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham during his career, has accused clubs of treating African players as ‘just a commodity’ and failing to respect their ambitions. 

Senegal international Sarr had hoped to secure a move away from Crystal Palace amid links to Liverpool and Galatasaray but ultimately finished the window at Selhurst Park, while Camara’s £47million transfer to Chelsea collapsed at the 11th hour after Monaco pulled out of the deal.

Furiously speaking out on the failed transfers on Wednesday morning, Kamara posted on his Instagram story: ‘The cases of Ismaila Sarr and Lamine Camara must all interrogate us.

‘We have to get out of this logic where the African player can sometimes give the feeling that he is just a commodity: you buy it, you set its price, you negotiate its future and, too often, your will seems to go to the background. 

‘Our African players deserve respect. The respect of their work. The respect of their career. Respecting their ambitions. The respect of their voices.

‘The fact that clubs can sometimes have the final word is a reality of professional football. But one question remains: what about the career and the will of the player?

Camara’s failed move to Chelsea became one of the main stories of deadline day as it left Xabi Alonso’s side short in midfield following the British record departure of Enzo Fernandez for £125m to Manchester City.

Chelsea thought they had secured Camara from Monaco with less than two hours of deadline day remaining, having agreed a £47m deal. 

Yet, in a dramatic twist, the Blues were left stunned and furious when Monaco then went back on their word as the 11pm deadline approached.

Chelsea sources say the two clubs had reached a full, written, club-to-club agreement for Camara to join. Yet when Monaco renegotiated their transfer of Folarin Balogun to Everton, Chelsea were told that the deal for Camara was being withdrawn.

Insiders at Stamford Bridge described it as a deeply unprofessional way for another club to conduct business.
