Unfortunately, Gone With the Wind is not available to stream online on Netflix or any other major platforms. However, the movie can be rented on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.  Even after several decades, the film with its massive box office collection of approximately $3.4 billion to $4.5 billion, considering both the original and the re-release, is considered to be one of the most successful movies of all time.

In 1989, the film was among the first 25 movies selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The movie follows a Southern belle, Scarlett O’Hara, who struggles to save her family’s plantation, Tara, while trying to find love during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era. Based on Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel of the same name, the film was released in 1939. It became a massive critical and commercial success upon its release.

Although a classic, the movie recently garnered a new wave of traction after it arrived on Netflix. The description of the movie was called out as inappropriate by many. Users noticed that the description for Gone with the Wind described the 1939 classic as “known for its racism.”

“A 1939 American Civil War epic known for its racism. To learn more about Black lives in America, search ’Black Lives Matter,'” the statement read.

The description quickly drew criticism, and Elon Musk was one of the critics who called out the wording as inappropriate. Netflix later removed the description without an explanation, so it is no longer on the Netflix July list. As many pointed out, whether it is for the story or performances, the movie has always sparked discussions and debate.

But now decades later in 2026, the movie is getting a digital upgrade as many remain curious about the film and performance.

Gone With the Wind will be released digitally

Gone With the Wind will be released digitally in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 3, 2026, for fans to watch the film in 4K resolution for the first time. The film will be released in three physical editions, which are a standard 4K UHD, a SteelBook, and a Walmart-exclusive collector’s edition.
