Representative Ilhan Omar has been mercilessly mocked after participating in a popular social media trend where she claimed Minnesota has ‘defeated’ Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 

Omar, 43, participated in a social media trend of posting herself sitting down to film a fake, explosive interview for a documentary. 

‘Me preparing for the documentary on how we defeated ICE’s racist terror campaign in Minnesota,’ she wrote on video text overlay. 

As the Democratic Socialist adjusted her black sweater and floral-printed pants, she smiled nervously at the camera, asking: ‘Alright, are we ready to go?’ 

‘We’re built different in Minnesota,’ she captioned the post. 

Minnesota has become an epicenter for the fury against ICE agents after two Americans, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were fatally shot at protests against the federal agency. 

In March, the North Star State sued the Donald Trump Administration over the civilian fatalities, claiming in a lawsuit that the federal government reneged on its promise to cooperate with state investigations. 

The lawsuit came after Trump agreed to pull agents out of Minnesota in January to allow the state to investigate the shootings.

Minnesota became the heartland of the anti-ICE protests after Alex Pretti and Renee Good were killed by federal agents 

Prior to that, Minnesota was a main immigration target, as fraud cases against Somali residents were revealed. Operation Metro Surge flooded Minneapolis with federal agents as part of the largest enforcement operation ever. 

Omar has been on the front lines since, confronting agents at a federal facility and demanding ICE be taken down. 

But her critics didn’t enjoy Omar’s lighthearted video, which got 3.3 million views on Facebook, on Wednesday. 

‘You defeated ICE?’ one person wrote with three laughing emojis. 

‘The delulu is real!! hahaha,’ another wrote. Delulu is a slang term for delusional. 

‘Or is it a fraud documentary??? Asking for a friend,’ one suggested for a change of topic.

Another agreed, writing: ‘We need a documentary on the learning center.’ 

‘Risky move leaving the comments turned on,’ another wrote. 

Omar’s critics were quick to point out that they would be interested in seeing a documentary about the fraud happening amongst Somali immigrants, which she has been accused of knowing about. She has denied the allegations 

ICE agents have since backdown on their crackdown after Trump pulled them in January to allow the state to investigate the shootings 

Omar has been accused of knowing about the fraud scheme before it was discovered. 

She has denied all accusations against her. 

Aimee Bock, founder of the Feeding Our Future Organization, said she does not believe that ‘state and federal officials’ did not know about the fraud.

The former nonprofit leader accused Omar in May of helping to loosen the regulation that allowed Somali-owned businesses, including restaurants, to falsify the number of meals that they served to school-age patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bock, who has been convicted of conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud in conjunction with the meal scheme, is facing up to 100 years in prison. She has denied taking part in the fraud and claimed she tried to ‘warn’ lawmakers.

In a video interview conducted from jail, Bock told the New York Post of Omar: ‘I struggle to believe that she wouldn’t have known.’

She also said: ‘The notion that I’m personally responsible for all of it… is so frustrating. I’m the only white person out of 80 or 90 individuals [charged in the fraud]. I’m the only one that doesn’t speak the language.’

She is alleging that Omar, who introduced the MEALS Act in 2020, designed the bill to make it easier to waive meal requirements in schools during the pandemic. As a result, there were fewer in-person inspections, she claims, and Somali restaurants started getting in on the multimillion-dollar scam.

Omar told the Daily Mail at the time: “The MEALS Act was signed into law by President Trump and passed with bipartisan support as part of a broader legislative package. Trump’s USDA Secretary set the regulatory framework during the rollout of the program. I have always championed feeding kids and will continue to ensure our children do not go hungry.’
