ICE press for deportation of illegal immigrant child sex predator who was freed from jail early after abusing boy

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is requesting a Romanian immigrant who was convicted of sexually abusing a middle-school boy be deported after she was released early from jail.

Rebeca Fratila-Ilies remains in police custody after ICE requested a detainer against her when police in North Carolina notified the federal agency it had arrested a sexual predator.

Fratila-Ilies was sentenced to 10 years for child sex crimes in Virginia in December 2022, but she was released early. She moved to North Carolina upon her release. Details of the nature of the crimes against the boy have not been disclosed.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office arrested her on March 12 for violating her probation, which was later dismissed.

ICE requested the Romanian national be kept in custody, pending deportation.

Fratila-Ilies came to the US as a child with her mother and received a green card in 2006.

Her green card was later deemed invalid after it was discovered her mother had filed a fraudulent benefits case, ICE said.

Fratila-Ilies was originally supposed to be deported in 2017 after failing to show up for an immigration hearing, but she later appealed the decision. A judge allowed her to stay in 2022, before she was convicted.

ICE Director Todd M Lyon said although she was a lawful resident, her crime does make her eligible for deportation.

‘She’s been convicted of sex crimes against a child, which means she’s amenable to removal,’ he said in a statement.
