A man has been mauled to death by a dog at a rural property in north-west NSW.
Emergency services were called to a Timor Road property in Coonabarabran on Sunday morning.
A man, 55, who was found suffering from serious injuries, died at the scene.
The dog was euthanised by police at the property. The breed is unknown.
It’s understood that the victim owned the dog.
NSW Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Warrumbungle Shire Council was ‘unable to comment on the circumstances’, citing the ongoing police investigation.
Just three months earlier, the council warned the community about the dangers of poorly contained dogs, and urged residents to report aggressive behaviour, regardless of any injuries.

One dog attack is reported per month in the shire.
‘Many recent incidents have occurred when dogs have been allowed to roam or have escaped from their owner’s property,’ the council said.
‘While you may believe your dog would not attack, situations can change quickly, especially when a dog is unsupervised or under stress.’
