Former Bachelorette Hannah Brown is reflecting on her friendship with former producer Julie LaPlaca.
“Her job is to produce and there [were] a lot of moments where I needed to be on for camera and I was not ready. It was a crazy time in my life and she definitely got the brunt of having to be the person that was telling me what I needed to do at certain times when I was not ready to do that,” Hannah, 31, recalled during an episode of the “She’s All Bach” podcast, which was shared via Instagram on Tuesday, July 7.
Hannah went on to add that she and Julie had a “love hate” dynamic.
“There would be moments where I would be like, ‘Julie, I cannot do this interview and I don’t want to talk to you,’” Hannah said, clarifying that she struggled with being “emotionally” ready. “I mean, sometimes physically. Sometimes I was physically laying on the ground, being like, ‘I cannot do this right now.’”
She continued, “You will go from breaking up with someone the night before and then having to be on camera talking about how excited you are to go on this next date. Sometimes emotionally I was not ready for that but that’s what the show needed and that’s the energy that I needed to bring and it was up to Julie to help get me there.”
In the comments section of the Tuesday clip, Julie wrote, “❤️.”
In Julie’s debut memoir, The Love Producer, which was published on Tuesday, Julie chronicled her time working behind-the-scenes on the Bachelor franchise. In the book, Julie noted that she “didn’t actually hate” Hannah and shared that the season of The Bachelorette in 2019 was “really hard” for her to navigate. (Julie became the hit reality TV show’s lead producer during that season.)
“I so desperately wanted her to like me. Instead, I was often left feeling dismissed,” she explained. “I say this not to bash Hannah. I didn’t have the pressure she was going through during filming.”
Julie shared in the book that she thinks she helped Hannah’s “growth” on the show.
“After all we’d gone through, she was like a younger sister to me,” Julie wrote. “Outside of the chaos of filming her season, I rather enjoyed hanging out with her. I appreciated that she was self-aware of how mean she had been and acknowledged her shortcomings.”
