The Green Party’s youth wing has called on ‘all students and young workers’ to join France-style protests across Britain next month.
Young Greens, an official Green Party group, shared a post on social media this week rallying support for an ‘International Youth Day of Action’ on 20 November inspired by demonstrations in Europe.
The European youth riots, sparked by left-wing protests against state education provision in France, have led to widespread violence, destruction of property and loss of livelihoods across the continent in recent weeks.
Both Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage warned this week Britain could soon see similar unrest on our streets without firm intervention.
But the Young Greens’ post issues a ‘call to all students and young workers’ to join the ‘brave students abroad’ in mass walkouts and protests in November.
The marches, taking place in most major British cities, will see young people demand ‘money out of war and into a future in our country’ following ‘decades of neglect from our government’, it says.
Young Greens co-chair Jo Dowbor also shared a similar post on her own Instagram page, rallying supporters to join the Trafalgar Square-based protest.
This comes after the Hackney Greens shared a post encouraging those ‘inspired’ by the scenes to join a march against austerity planned for next week.

Shadow Home Office minister Matt Vickers asked on Thursday: ‘Perhaps [Zack] Polanski is too busy dealing with the antisemitism engulfing his party to pay attention to what his party’s youth wing is calling for, but he has a responsibility to condemn this rhetoric and make clear that he will not turn a blind eye to the prospect of violence and looting on our streets’
The University and College Union – whose leader Jo Grady has previously called on Labour to invest in fighting climate change instead of defence – is also backing a ‘National Day of Action’ on 20 November.
Shadow Home Office minister Matt Vickers asked on Thursday: ‘Does the Green Party really want to import the scenes of violence and looting we’ve seen in France onto British streets?’
He added: ‘Perhaps [Zack] Polanski is too busy dealing with the antisemitism engulfing his party to pay attention to what his party’s youth wing is calling for, but he has a responsibility to condemn this rhetoric and make clear that he will not turn a blind eye to the prospect of violence and looting on our streets.’
Lord Walney, a former independent adviser to the government on political violence and disruption, said the British people ‘will not forgive or forget anyone who brings France-style mayhem to British streets, and they will insist the British government takes the firm stand needed to keep a lid on the chaos that these far-left anarchists want to inflict on the public’.
‘This bunch of jumped up young lefties might seem innocuous but the lesson from across the Channel is that the situation can spiral out of control, so it is vital that Andy Burnham is ready to act to maintain order.’
Neither the Green Party nor the Young Greens responded to a request for comment.
