The Aspire WestJet Garden Lounge at Calgary International Airport reimagines pre-flight waiting with a calm and nature-infused environment. Designed by Menard Dworkind (MRDK), the project adds 90 new seats to the existing lounge, bringing total capacity to 216. It is Canada’s first garden-style airport lounge, defined by soaring 40-foot ceilings and a dramatic curtain wall that allows natural light to fill the interior. The design emphasizes a seamless transition from the terminal into a lush retreat, offering travelers a rare sense of calm within a bustling transit hub.
The space is organized into a variety of residential-style seating areas surrounded by raised planter boxes. These planters not only shape the flow of movement but also hide integrated power outlets for convenience. Warm materials and earthy tones of green, brown, and neutral shades establish a grounding atmosphere. Together, these design elements transform the lounge into a restorative setting that balances functionality with a sense of sanctuary.
