American racing fans once again were dismayed to see Danica Patrick on their screens as she served as a commentator for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, DC.
Patrick, a former IndyCar and NASCAR driver, was called up by Fox to serve as an analyst for the race set up to wind through the streets of the Nation’s Capital. But not many were happy to see Patrick, who has been routinely criticized by motorsport fans for her commentary on NASCAR, IndyCar and Formula One races in the past.
This time, Patrick’s commentary also involved some politicking as she praised President Donald Trump, who she has voted for in the past, for helping to put on this race.
‘Between the vision of (FOX CEO) Eric Shanks and (Penske Corporation President) Bud Denker, with the help of, of course, Secretary [of Transportation Sean] Duffy and President Donald Trump with that executive order, I think it really embodies what it is to live in America, land of the free, and anything is possible.
‘That this race was gone from concept to reality as quickly as it was, and as well as it’s been done, I think that is the perfect embodiment and celebration of 250 years of this country.’
IndyCar fans were loud and clear with their criticism of Patrick, including for her non-racing commentary, on social media.
