Anne Hathaway has some important advice for film ratings, and the Rating Administration might want to listen. The independent boards use ratings such as G, PG, PG-13, and R to classify films and ensure the content reaches the appropriate audience. From gore and horror to sensitive issues, these ratings hint at what they can expect from a movie.

However, Hathaway believes there is one aspect involving dogs that is often overlooked in movie ratings. Whether it is based on her experiences with dogs or something she noticed while filming her upcoming movie, The End of Oak Street, she believes there should be a necessary change to the rating system.

As per Complex Pop, Anne Hathaway revealed that whether or not someone has a pet dog, people are often deeply affected by watching a dog die in a movie. It can be a disturbing or emotionally heavy scene. And this is why the actress believes that movies featuring the death of a dog should receive an R rating.

“Everybody’s so scared that we’re casually doing it in movies now,” she said.

Hathaway might not be wrong about her opinion, as many viewers, regardless of whether they have a pet dog, look up whether a dog dies in a movie before watching it. Several movies that do not carry an R rating feature heartbreaking scenes involving the death of a beloved dog. From the Farber family’s dog in Funny Games to Dinky in National Lampoon’s Vacation, and Old Jack and Dewey in Eight Below, many movies feature the heartbreaking deaths of dogs. 

Whether a dog dies a heroic death or passes away from old age, watching it is always painful. And if anyone understands this better, it is Hathaway herself, who has pet dogs.

Anne Hathaway has a chocolate Labrador, Esmeralda. Later in 2014, Hathaway and her husband, Adam Shulman, adopted a rescue puppy from The Amanda Foundation. The mixed spaniel-terrier was initially named Edward before the couple renamed him Kenobi, inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars, as per US Weekl

They adopted Kenobi as a companion for Esmeralda, as per She Knows. The couple was later photographed spending time with both dogs during their summer in New York City. So, dogs are indeed an important part of the actress and her husband’s life. The actress also recently got the chance to film with a dog in her latest movie, The End of Oak Street, which was released this August.
