Escape room contestant is turned into a human fireball after organisers tie her up and set her on fire after unwittingly pouring real petrol over her during ‘hardcore’ experience

A woman was severely burned in a ‘hardcore’ escape room experience gone wrong after staff unwittingly poured gasoline on her.

The victim went to the event at a venue called Villa Amparo in Cajar, Spain, where she became engulfed in flames.

Actors also playing the game put the woman in shackles and ordered her to stand on top of a chair with a rope tied around her neck.

The suspects then covered her in a liquid that ‘smelled an awful lot like gasoline’, but when she brought this to their attention it was allegedly ignored.

One of the suspects then lit a lighter and the victim suffered extreme burns as her body caught ablaze.

The actors reportedly fled the room and someone rushed in with an extinguisher.

The severe injuries saw the woman spend months in a specialised burn unit and was hospitalised for a lengthy period to recover.

She also reported significant psychological distress as a result of the injuries.

The group taking part in the activity in 2022, which was dubbed a ‘hardcore escape room’, were told to wear clothes they wouldn’t mind getting dirty and were informed of the rules, but not the risks.

The prosecution believes the crime could constitute negligent injury and is seeking two years in prison for the three defendants, while the victim’s private prosecution is requesting three years.

The victim’s insurer, has also asked for financial compensation of €1.9 million for the injuries she sustained.

The trial began on Monday.
