A man has been charged after an 11-year-old boy was shot in the face inside a home in Sydney’s northwest.

Emergency services were called to a property on Fairway Drive in Norwest around 5pm on Monday after reports of a shooting.

Officers found the child with gunshot wounds to his face and neck.

‘He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he remains,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘Five other people who were in the home at the time of the incident were not injured.’

Three men, all aged 18, were arrested, with two taken to The Hills Police Station and later released pending further inquiries.

The third man – Isaac Bechara – was taken to Riverstone Police Station, where he was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail and will appear before Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday.

Supt. Naomi Moore said police don’t believe the shooting is linked to organised crime

Superintendent Naomi Moore from the Hills District Police Area Command said it was ‘far too early’ to say what happened inside the apartment.

‘We have nothing to suggest that it is organised-crime-related, but we will conduct a very thorough investigation into this,’ Supt. Moore said, seeking to calm anyone ‘fearful on the streets out here at the moment’. 

‘It’s a tragic situation with an 11-year-old child suffering this injury.’ 

Supt. Moore said the boy, who remains in a critical condition this morning, was with his mother overnight.

‘She is as distressed as any parent would be about what she is dealing with at the moment. It is an absolute tragic situation,’ she said.

On Monday, Supt. Moore said no gun had been found and there were no firearms registered at the address.

It’s understood the boy was in the unit with a 44-year-old woman and four 18-year-old men when the shooting occurred. 

Investigations are continuing.
