The Presidents Cup will live up to its name on Sunday, when Donald Trump will serve as the four-day event’s honorary chairman at Medinah Country Club just outside Chicago.
Trump previously accepted the PGA Tour’s invitation to do so, continuing the tradition of American and other world leaders hosting the biennial team-golf event. In response to an email from The Daily Mail, the White House has now confirmed Trump’s presence for Sunday’s closing round at the President’s Cup.
He previously served as the honorary chairman of the 2017 Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, becoming the second sitting president to attend the event. Former President Joe Biden did not attend the 2022 tournament in Charlotte, but did serve as honorary chairman. Two years later, then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was on hand for one day of the tournament in Montreal.
Trump became the first sitting US president to attend the Ryder Cup last year, resulting in major fan delays due to the added security.
The Presidents Cup is a team event between the US and golfers from Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. The International team includes Si Woo Kim, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, while the US has Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele, among others.
This marks the first time in 2026 that Trump will be at a high-profile golf event on a course he doesn’t own. He previously attended a pair of LIV events at his courses to see the PGA’s embattled rival ahead of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Trump was also on hand for the PGA Tour’s return to Doral in May, as well as the Irish Open at Doonbeg earlier this month.

Although the tone of Trump’s non-consecutive White House terms has changed in many respects, golf has remained a cornerstone of the President’s life since returning to Washington in 2025. Over the last 611 days, Trump has golfed 137 times, according to DidTrumpGolfToday.com, which estimates a $191 million cost to taxpayers over that time.
One 2017 report from the Government Accountability Office put four trips to Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida course and property at around $13.6 million, or about $3.4 million each. Much of the costs go towards room and accommodation for secret service – bills that are ultimately paid by taxpayers to Trump’s family company.
And even when Trump isn’t golfing, the sport still consumes much of his social life.
When he mysteriously abandoned last week’s trip to Camp David to rush back to the White House on Saturday, Trump was seen returning with golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Gary Player.
DeChambeau and his girlfriend, 26-year-old hockey player Mikayla Demaiter, were seen disembarking from Marine One at the White House’s Ellipse after the trip came to an abrupt end on Saturday night. Another photo showed DeChambeau seated alongside the 90-year-old Player aboard the military helicopter as it was touching down near the White House.
Trump’s connections to both Player and DeChambeau are nothing new, as both have been guests of the President at his various clubs around the world.
Demaiter, a former hockey goalkeeper who now works as a model and influencer, was initially linked with DeChambeau when she shared a post from LIV Golf’s event at Trump National Bedminster last month.
