From Danny Boyle comes a biographical drama about a figure whose impact on global media cannot be overstated. Set during the early days of his ownership of The Sun, we follow business magnate Rupert Murdoch and his editor at the time, Larry Lamb.
Ink is based on the Tony-winning play of the same name, by award winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham. Of course, we know Danny Boyle can deliver a gripping inspection of someone’s life, as he did with Steve Jobs, and also swashbuckling, energetic dramas such as Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire – and Ink looks like it fits both bills.
The film stars Jack O’Connell as the editor Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch, and Claire Foy as Jules Davies, a fictional reporter for The Sun inspired by female fleet street reporters of the time.
Rupert Murdoch acquired The Sun newspaper in late 1969, and it’s this period, with Larry Lamb as its editor, that it set about changing tabloid and news media forever. The trailer hints at the origin or The Sun‘s controversial yet sales-soaring Page 3, amongst other sea-changes that blurred journalistic, legal, and moral lines.
