After playing a few pranks on their kids, identical twins Sammie Nowakowski and Steph Buckman may have confused their little ones as to which mom is which.

In a video shared to their joint TikTok account, Steph's son Noah, 4, can be seen coming up to the camera as the two families sit outside. "Are you my mommy?" Noah innocently asks Steph's sister, Sammie.

"No," Sammie replies, laughing and repeating Noah's question. "Are you my mommy?"

She then zooms the camera in on her sister, who stands a few feet away from her and sips from a wine glass. "😂😂😂 whose mommy is it," they wrote in the caption.

Now, Sammie and Steph tell PEOPLE that their kids often get the two of them confused.

"Yes, especially if we are wearing the same clothes," they say. "Once they see our face, they can tell who is who, but they often walk up to the wrong mom.

Sammie shares her daughter Maddie, 4, and Ella, 1, with husband Jake Nowakowski. Steph shares sons Noah and Charlie, 1, with husband Jonathan Buckman. The two are also next-door neighbors.

"It's funny because they are a little suspicious of us after we have played pranks [and] switched places on them," they say of their kids. "They think it's hilarious and they have to double check that they have the right mom."

When they saw Noah asking which mom was his, the sisters both found the moment to be pretty hilarious.

"Steph laughed, and I said 'No' and laughed," says Sammie. "It was funny, I wasn't expecting him to say that, but we were wearing the same sweatshirt."

The two explain that people often get them mixed up, especially since they are identical twins.

"I think they can tell us apart if they know us," says Sammie. "If they don't know us, well, it's hard for them to tell us apart. Steph is a little taller, and our face shapes are different."

The two admit that it "must be confusing" for their kids to be around them all the time, especially since they often dress the same.

"We're all so close and have spent every day together since we had our kids, so we're kind of just one big family," says Sammie. "Our kids sometimes think they're siblings (genetically they are kind of half-siblings since we're identical)."

"They know they are cousins, but it's fun having them grow up together and doing life side by side!"
