Beth Broderick says that days on set of Sabrina the Teenage Witch were far from normal.

When talking with PEOPLE at the 30th anniversary show in Chicago on June 13, Broderick, 67, admits that she “filmed a lot of outrageous scenes" while making the beloved sitcom.

“My ears grew down to my waist. And then one, I was at a spa, and so they removed my face and hung it on a clothesline. That was me in a rubber mask, breathing through a tube in my nose for a long time,” Broderick reflects on the wildest storylines.

The show centered around Melissa Joan Hart's Sabrina Spellman, who learns at the age of 16 that she's a witch. She lives with her two aunts, the stern Aunt Zelda, played by Broderick, and the goofy Aunt Hilda, played by Caroline Rhea.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which ran from 1996 to 2003, was known for its hijinks, practical jokes and special effects, and, of course, magic.

“We did a lot of crazy stuff. We flew rigs. They threw lima beans on our heads. We did so many amazing, ridiculous things,” Broderick adds.

She shares that her “favorite story” was when she was walking from her trailer to the set and she heard a “crazy commotion in the wardrobe room.”

“I look in and the wardrobe designer is trying to measure a chicken for a tuxedo. And the chicken did not want to wear a tuxedo," she recalls. "But who goes to work and sees that every day? You don't see that every day."

The only thing that wasn't out of place was the strong, family-like bond that Broderick, Rhea and Hart shared.

Broderick says their on-screen dynamic "came pretty natural to all of us.”

“Caroline and I are our characters, really, in real life. I'm actually a nerd — a science nerd," she shares. "And I read Harvard Business Review and all that. Melissa was so young, but she was so talented and smart and so sweet. The three of us just became a family effortlessly."

When reflecting on all the people who joined the show as guest stars, Broderick reveals some of her favorites to work with.

“I love Johnny Mathis, of course. Amazing to be able to do a Christmas show with him. 10,000 Maniacs were really fantastic and Backstreet Boys," Broderick shares. "We had so many. Dick Van Dyke, so many marvelous people. Raquel Welch."

One of the reasons she says they were able to get so many great stars to agree to do the show was because “so many people's kids were watching the show that everybody wanted to do it.”

“So, we got a lot of people we didn't expect we would be able to get," she admits.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch is now streaming on Hulu.
