Arsenal are set to complete their protracted £75million move for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Full agreement is now almost done, with the clubs agreeing a compromise to end the saga.

Guimaraes is waiting for permission to leave Newcastle’s training base in La Manga, in Spain, to finalise the formalities of his move to Emirates Stadium.

Guimaraes’ former club Lyon are entitled to 20 per cent of Newcastle’s profit on the midfielder, and will earn £7-8m from the deal.

The Gunners are making preparations for the Brazil midfielder’s medical this week.

Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022, has made clear his intention to join Arsenal as the 28-year-old has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice central midfield target.

Newcastle and Arsenal have been discussing the finer terms of the deal this week with a final agreement now considered a formality.

Guimaraes told Newcastle earlier this summer that he wanted to join Arsenal if a suitable offer arrived.

Once the deal is completed, Newcastle will have made more than £240m from player sales this summer.

Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona in a £69.3m, while Spurs signed Sandro Tonali for £100m.

They are exploring a number of names as they source a replacement.
