A massive manhunt was underway in Tennessee for an armed and dangerous US Army Special Forces veteran who allegedly shot his wife.
Deputies responded to a reported shooting at Craig Berry’s house during a domestic dispute at around 1.30am on Friday, according to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office.
But by the time deputies arrived on the scene, Berry had already run into the woods.
Meanwhile, his wife – a teacher at Stewart County Schools whose identity has not been released – was able to run from the home and drive away after being shot, WCNC reports.
She was reportedly recovering in the hospital on Monday night. Her condition remained unclear.
Authorities have been scouring a remote, heavily wooded area for any sign of Berry since he fled the scene on Friday.
He was being sought on charges of second-degree attempted murder.
But the Sheriff’s Office warns he should not be approached under any circumstance, as they urge residents to lock their doors and remain on alert.

Deputies noted that Berry is a retired special forces veteran with extensive training in survival tactics.
The vet is ‘an excellent swimmer and diver, and is in good physical shape,’ they added.
Berry is also armed with at least one handgun, and is believed to have taken extra ammunition with him.
He was last tracked by K9s on River Trace Road, and a trail camera photo confirmed he was wearing camouflage clothing.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility Berry received aid following the shooting, but deputies do not believe he has a phone or any other means of communication on him.
The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office is now working with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, state Homeland Security and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to track Berry down.
In the meantime, authorities are asking anyone who sees anything suspicious or anyone with any information on Berry’s whereabouts to call 911.
