Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi has been handed a remarkable 73-year driving ban for driving without a licence.

The former PSG and Inter Milan goal machine found himself in hot water after a video posted by Icardi’s new girlfriend China Suarez caught the attention of the Argentine Ministry of Transport.

The video posted showed her hanging out of the window of a car driven by Icardi, just outside of Buenos Aires. The Ministry for Transport then launched an investigation which revealed the striker’s driving licence had expired.

The Ministry have since published a statement on X saying: ‘We found that Icardi’s driving license had expired. For this reason, we have ordered his provisional disqualification… the player will need to be assessed to determine his fitness to drive. Road safety allows for no exception.’ 

The Ministry confirmed Icardi has been handed a driving ban until the end of the century.

The two-time Serie A golden boot winner issued a raunchy statement in response to the his suspension, writing: ‘Think about fixing the roads to improve traffic flow instead of wasting time writing tweets and scratching your balls.’

The striker is now locked in a battle against the ministry challenging the suspension with the hope of having it lifted.

As part of his punishment Icardi also has also had his Italian driving licence cancelled despite it being valid until 2029. 

The striker again took to social media to voice his displeasure, writing: ‘I want to know how you have managed cancel my Italian driving licence.’

The striker is no stranger to controversy off the pitch having been embroiled in one of the most famous footballing scandals. 

In 2013, after first joining Inter Milan, fellow Argentinian Maxi Lopez welcomed the then 19-year-old to Italy by frequently inviting him to his house to meet his family and enjoy time off together and over time Icardi privately grew close to Lopez’s then wife Wanda Nara.

Lopez and Nara eventually separated in late 2013 and shockingly a year later Nara tied the knot with Icardi.

Both Nara and Icardi repeatedly denied their relationship had begun before her divorce from Lopez.

Yet the perceived betrayal had led to the striker being kept out of the Argentine national team for most of his early career due to the scrutiny he received. 

Nara and Icardi endured an acrimonious separation early last year and begun dating his new girlfriend China Suarez but remains in litigation with Nara over the pair’s divorce settlement.
