In March, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that iOS 19 will be “one of the most dramatic software overhauls” in the history of the iPhone, adding that significant design changes are also anticipated for iPadOS and macOS to create a “more consistent” design across Apple’s three biggest platforms.

However, it now seems Apple’s plans are even more ambitious than previously believed. Apple reportedly plans to redesign the software on the Apple Watch and Apple TV as well. “tvOS and watchOS will both be redesigned to match their more popular siblings,” Gurman reports in his latest Power On newsletter.

This means that by the end of the year, almost all the software on Apple’s devices could look quite different from what they do today. But what does that design entail?

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s new design philosophy is called “Solarium.” The name is based on a type of sunroom that consists mostly of glass walls and a glass roof to allow as much sunlight as possible. This design is hinted at in the WWDC 2025 logo, which features a glassy version of the rainbow arches seen at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, where WWDC is being held.

, though not entirely circular, and that the overall interface is expected to utilize transparency and glass-like effects, similar to those in visionOS, hence the “Solarium” effect.

Personally, I’m cautiously optimistic about Apple’s anticipated major redesigns, and I like the idea of glass effects being a prominent theme throughout the user interface.

Regarding what to expect from Apple Intelligence at WWDC, Gurman reports that there likely won’t be any “earth-shattering” news about Apple Intelligence or AI from the event. However, a “battery-preserving feature” and new “health-related capabilities,” powered by Apple Intelligence, are reportedly on the way. It’s also possible that Apple could announce Google Gemini integration for Apple Intelligence.

Earlier this year, Apple postponed some of its Apple Intelligence features, like “a more personalized version of Siri,” until later in this “coming year,” so it’s no surprise that it might take a backseat at WWDC.

Another interesting development regarding Apple Intelligence involves Apple’s long-rumored new smart home display. The product is expected to be Apple’s version of the Google Nest Hub and will have a brand-new operating system called homeOS.

Initially, it was believed to be launching this spring, but due to all of Apple’s AI setbacks, it was pushed back. Now, Gurman believes it could launch by the end of this year “at the earliest,” with a more advanced version featuring a robotic arm coming later down the road. The device reportedly relies heavily on Apple Intelligence’s Siri upgrades and App Intents (cross-app actions), which have not yet launched.

Fortunately, with WWDC 2025 set for June 9, we won’t have to wait much longer to learn what’s new with iOS 19 and Apple Intelligence. Personally, I’m cautiously optimistic about Apple’s anticipated major redesigns, and I like the idea of glass effects being a prominent theme throughout the user interface.
