A weird issue is causing these LG TVs to turn themselves off ‣ Diverse Daily

Picture this: you sit down to play a game on your OLED TV, and right when the action kicks in and bright images appear on your screen, it suddenly turns off out of nowhere. That would be pretty annoying, right? Well, unfortunately for some LG TV owners, that’s exactly what they’re experiencing.

There have been numerous reports on Reddit recently of LG OLED TV owners experiencing an issue where, when a bright flash appears on their screen, the TV suddenly turns off and power cycles.

In one particular case, a Reddit user experienced this while playing Resident Evil 9: Requiem. Whenever they fired the Requiem gun in-game, which is a large, powerful revolver, the bright flash from firing it caused their LG C1 OLED TV to completely turn off and restart. In a similar case, another Reddit user recently reported that their LG G5 TV shuts off whenever there’s a “rapid change” in brightness. As with the earlier report involving Resident Evil 9, the shutdown also occurred after a bright muzzle flash in Cronos: The New Dawn.

Other Redditors have also reported the same issue on LG OLED TVs while playing games like Call of Duty, Halo, Borderlands, and Battlefield, with power cycling seemingly triggered by sudden bright flashes on-screen.

What’s frustrating about this issue is that there doesn’t seem to be an exact reason as to why it’s occurring. There’s been a lot of speculation on Reddit that it could be the fault of the TV’s power supply unit (PSU), the panel itself dying, or possibly the HDMI cables being used.

As for which models seem to be affected by this, based on user reports (via TechRadar), it appears to affect both older and newer LG OLED TV models, including the LG C9 (2019), LG CX (2020), LG C1 (2021), LG B4 (2024), and LG G5 (2025).

Additionally, it’s important to note that while this issue is unfortunately affecting some LG OLED TV users, it doesn’t affect all users, and many report they’ve never experienced it on their TVs.

On my LG C5 TV, the OLED Pixel Brightness is set to 80, so if yours is higher, it may be worth turning it down. You can adjust it in Settings > Picture > Advanced Settings > Brightness > OLED Pixel Brightness. Additionally, other possible solutions that Reddit users have used include disabling HDR or replacing the HDMI 2.1 cable on your TV.

Ultimately, this issue is pretty weird, and it’s frustrating that something as simple as a bright flash in a game can instantly turn off your TV. Hopefully, the exact cause can be identified soon, but with so many variables at play (such as differences between models and usage), it may not be easy to pinpoint. For the most part, though, this appears to be a rare occurrence among users, and not something I’d worry too much about if you’re considering an OLED TV or already own one.
