When it first arrived in theaters back in May, I don’t think anyone predicted how much of a phenomenon independent horror movie Obsession would become. Made on just a $750,000 budget, the horror movie has made over $330 million at the box office thus far, and is still breaking records six weeks into its theatrical run.
Though production company Blumhouse decided to delay the initial digital release of Obsession late last this month, some new information about a potential new, digital streaming version of this film has quietly made its way online, fueling speculation that we could see this movie finally come to small screens in the very near future.

Apple TV’s listing for Obsession has been updated with new rating information
No release date yet, but the film’s theatrical run could wrap up soon paving the way for a digital release
Earlier today, the listing for Obsession on Apple TV was updated to include an “Unrated” tag, where the film’s R rating had previously been. This has led to some whispers online that a new, possibly extended edition of the film may be being prepared for an impending digital release.
It’s important to note that no release date for any digital version of the film has been set officially, but with its theatrical run potentially winding down in July, now seems like a good time for the horror hit to pivot to streaming platforms, and an unrated edition of the movie could help continue to keep interest high in this movie as it shifts to the small screen.
No additional information has been released about the film’s eventual 4K UHD/Blu-ray release
We know a physical release is on the way, but listings have not reappeared
Though preorders for the Obsession 4K UHD and Blu-ray discs went live on several retailers several weeks ago on June 1, they were quickly pulled from sites like Amazon and Walmart after just a few hours, likely because the physical release of the movie (which was previously set for July 14) was pushed back to coincide with the delayed digital release.
However, now that it seems like a digital release is imminent, we should learn more about when the 4K/Blu-ray release will actually release, and hopefully preorders will resume sometime in July.
Don’t hold your breath for a Peacock release any time soon
It will likely show up before the end of the year
Because Obsession is a Blumhouse release, the studio’s deal with NBC Universal means that after it officially hits VOD platforms as well as 4K/Blu-Ray, its next stop will be Peacock, which could in theory house both the unconfirmed unrated and R-rated versions of the film. However, because of all the delays with both the physical and digital editions of the movie, it likely won’t debut until October or November at the earliest on the service.
It is also worth noting that Blumhouse also has a deal that could eventually bring the film to Netflix as well, but if that happens, I wouldn’t expect to see it on the service until 2027 at the earliest and likely only the theatrical version.
