Sustainable Future Venues : All-Electric Stadium

An All-electric stadium plan secures planning approval for Oxford United’s new home in Kidlington, marking a milestone in sustainable sports architecture. The 16,000-seat stadium, located on The Triangle north of Oxford, will run entirely on renewable energy, powered by 3,500 square meters of rooftop solar panels and an air-source heat pump, removing the need for gas. This approval was granted by Cherwell District Council, with the project now awaiting the Secretary of State’s final decision.

Led by Ridge and Partners in collaboration with AFL Architects, Mott MacDonald, and Fabrik, the design emphasizes green transport, aiming for ninety percent of matchday travel by rail, bus, or bicycle through new links to Oxford Parkway and Park & Ride. The mixed-use complex will also feature a 180-room hotel, community plaza, wellness gardens, and an events space, positioning the venue as a sustainable hub that benefits both the club and the surrounding community.
