The Oakley x Axiom Space partnership will equip NASA’s Artemis III astronauts with a next-generation visor system integrated into the AxEMU spacesuit, which is specifically engineered to address the unique visual challenges of the Moon’s south pole. The two-part deployable visor incorporates Oakley’s High-Definition Optics technology enhanced for extraterrestrial conditions. The design features gold-coated reflectivity to manage extreme light variations, specialized coatings to reduce haze and scratches from lunar dust, and tuned light transmittance to improve visibility in both permanent shadows and direct sunlight.
The system represents a significant advancement in human-rated space equipment, combining Axiom Space’s spacesuit expertise with Oakley’s legacy of protecting athletes in Earth’s most extreme environments.
