The Goddess of Pop has a graceful response to Michael Douglas’s opinion about her Oscar win. Cheryl Sarkisian, who is better known as Cher, was nominated twice for the Academy Award. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 1984 for Silkwood.
Her second nomination came in 1988 for her performance in Moonstruck alongside Nicolas Cage. This time, the actress won Best Actress. However, more than 3 decades later, Michael Douglas, who won Best Actor that year for Wall Street, had a bold opinion about Cher’s win recently and seems to disagree with the Academy.
And now, Cher has an answer to the same.
Cher’s respectful response to Michael Douglas
A few days ago, Michael Douglas appeared on The Graham Norton Show alongside his Fatal Attraction co-star Glenn Close. He said Close was nominated for the movie in 1988, her fourth nomination, but Cher won.
Cher did not directly respond to Michael Douglas’ comment. However, she made sure to share her opinion on the matter. After Michael Douglas’s viral comment about her 1988 Oscar win, the actress and singer’s representative shared her amusing response with Entertainment Weekly.
“Cher adores Michael Douglas,” the representative said.

Her comment to Entertainment Weekly comes after Douglas’s comment, where even his co-star Close, who is set to win the Honorary Award by The Academy in a few days, was quick to remind the actor to be “kind.” Now, both Moonstruck and Fatal Attraction were nominated for 6 Oscars and competed for best picture and best director but lost to The Last Emperor and Bernardo Bertolucci, respectively. Moonstruck, meanwhile, also won for the adapted screenplay and supporting actress.
However, in the present, both films remain memorable to audiences, with fans often watching or rewatching them even in 2026.

Meanwhile, Fatal Attraction, starring Glenn Close, is available to stream on MGM+ and FuboTV. The psychological thriller follows a married attorney who has an affair with a book editor, setting off a series of disturbing events. Michael Douglas stars as Dan Gallagher, while Close portrays Alex Forrest.
