EXCLUSIVE: Peacock has canceled the Miami-set crime-drama series M.I.A. after one season. The series, from creator, writer and executive producer Bill Dubuque, premiered May 7 with all nine hour-long episodes.

Following the show’s premiere, there was a lot of buzz around M.I.A. It received an extra push from NBC with a special airing on the network May 14. In a unique move, M.I.A. was one of the few shows set in Miami and also shot there. Details regarding the reason for the cancellation are unknown.

In M.I.A., running drugs is a family affair for Etta Tiger Jonze (Shannon Gisela). But when the family business is threatened, she is thrust into a life she never expected, forcing her to use her wits to survive as she navigates Miami’s criminal underground.

The cast also included Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Alberto Guerra, Maurice Compte, Gerardo Celasco and Marta Milans.

Karen Campbell served as the show’s showrunner, writer (of episode102) and executive producer. Alethea Jones directed the first two episodes of the series and executive produced. Additional directors and their episodes include: Gwyneth Horder-Payton (103), Marizee Almas (104, 105), Ben Semanoff (106, 107) and John Dahl (108, 109).
