Nicole Kidman went to her late mother for specific advice about her eldest daughter before she died.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress, 59, said she asked her mom, Janelle Kidman, for her thoughts on 18-year-old daughter Sunday Rose pursuing a modeling career.
Explaining that Sunday was with her before her mother died in September 2024 at age 84, the Lioness star recalled, “I said, ‘Oh, should I let her? She wants to model.’ And my mom said, ‘Well, you did it. … You have to let her because I let you.’ ”
“My mother let me do my passion that I wanted when I was 14 [when] I started,” added Kidman.

“So that was, sort of, my mom’s parting gift to Sunny,” Kidman continued.
“She kind of encouraged me to let her be able to follow her ‘bliss’ and follow her passion and what she wanted. So, I’m so grateful that my mama passed [that on],” added the Academy Award winner.

Kidman’s mother’s death was announced in 2024 through a statement read aloud by Babygirl director Halina Reijn at the Venice Film Festival, after the actress left the event early.
Sunday made her runway debut at the Miu Miu show for Paris Fashion Week a month after her grandmother died.
She returned to Paris Fashion Week the following year, and she later joined Kidman as her plus-one at the Met Gala, fashion’s biggest night, this past May.

Kidman shares Sunday, as well as daughter Faith Margaret, 15, with ex Keith Urban.
The Big Little Lies alum is also a mom to daughter Isabella Cruise, 33, and son Connor Cruise, 31, with ex Tom Cruise.
In a recent interview with Extra, Kidman spoke about how she balanced filming the new season of Lioness while co-parenting her two daughters with Urban, 58.
“I go home to my family. I’ve got one child in junior year and one who’s a freshman. So, I was like, ‘Okay, I got to be there taking care,’ you know? Multitasking, right?” said Kidman.
