A mom in Tennessee was arrested for murder when officers found a man dead on her front lawn after she claimed that she caught him hiding under her daughter’s bed. 

Kendra Scott, 36, was taken into custody by the Memphis Police Department after officers responded to her home just before 2am on Thursday for reports of a shooting, according to an arrest affidavit. 

Police made the grim discovery of a 20-year-old man unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back of his head on Scott’s front porch. 

Scott allegedly told officers at the scene that she ‘saw a dude under my kid’s bed and I did what I had to do,’ according to the warrant. 

Scott’s daughter, who has not been named due to her age, identified the victim as a man named Rodderius Morton. 

She told police that she had invited Morton to the home and he came in through the back door at 1am, the warrant stated. 

About 20 minutes later, her mother came home and knocked loudly on the door, yelling, ‘Who’s at my house?’ 

The girl told police that she was scared because Scott had a gun and had previously threatened that if a boy was in the house, she would ‘put a hole in his a**.’

Police responded to Scott’s home just before 2am on Thursday after reports of a shooting. The victim, later identified as Rodderius Morton, was pronounced dead at the scene 

She said that when she let her mother into the room, Scott allegedly caught Morton hiding under the bed and collected his belongings before leaving the home. 

The daughter added that Scott told Morton to ‘get out of my house b***h’ and she heard one gunshot when the two went out on the front porch. 

A neighbor also reported that he went outside when he heard banging and saw Scott going into the home with a gun. 

The neighbor came back outside after hearing gunshots and reported that Scott was allegedly standing in the front yard with the gun, saying, ‘I shot him, I shot him,’ according to the arrest affidavit. 

Officers later located a 9mm spent shell casing on the front porch and a black handgun in the yard. 

‘This incident started with the worst nightmare of any parent of a 13-year-old girl. Predictably, it ended in tragedy,’ Scott’s lawyer, Blake Ballin, told the Daily Mail in a statement. 

‘One of the key questions in this case will be whether anyone could act rationally in this circumstance.’

Tanisha Gunn, who said she was Morton’s sister on Facebook, paid tribute to him online, writing, ‘What makes this so hard is knowing my lil brother was mentally challenged. 

An arrest warrant said that Morton was allegedly invited to the home, pictured above, by Scott’s teen daughter and went in through the back door 

‘He was not the average 20 year old, he has always had a childlike mindset. That’s why he barely talked or always to himself,’ she continued. 

‘Lord I don’t know what transpired these last few days before his life was taken, but here we are. Lost, hurt, heartbroken, and left with soo many unanswered questions. What I do know is Roderrious was not this monster people are claiming to be.’

Another sister, Tamara Morton, wrote in a separate social media post, ‘My heart is broken. My little brother if [you know] Rod. He don’t bother NOBODY. Lord This is a Nightmare!! IM SO ANGRY!’ 

The shocking sequence of events has rattled the family’s neighbors. Gloria Milon, who lives near Scott, told Action News 5 that she ‘seemed like a real nice lady.’ 

‘All I can say is, that hurts that someone was in there with one of her little girls,’ she added. 

However, another neighbor said that if they had been in the situation, they would have called the police instead of deploying a weapon. 

Scott was arraigned virtually on Friday on two charges of first-degree murder and possessing a firearm during a dangerous felony. She is due back in court on Monday for a bail review hearing.
