Iranian-French architect India Mahdavi worked in collaboration with Omer Arbel to design the Smiley chair. It is an armchair that is detailed with 10 yellow plug sockets. The furniture is made in a pink hue and the sockets are round and yellow.
For this project, Mahdavi revives her Oliver chair — a compact armble clad with geometric textile which was made for a private home in London and at the time, named after the client’s newborn baby. Mahdavi explains more about the design, “Smiley is about celebrating the small details that bring joy to our daily lives. By reimagining the electrical outlet as a design element, we invite people to see the beauty in the functional and the familiar.”
