Bill Gates made a bombshell revelation while testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“I learned Epstein had become aware of sensitive information about my personal life, including the fact that I had been unfaithful in my marriage.” Gates, 70, said on Wednesday, June 10, claiming that the disgraced billionaire was blackmailing him prior to his 2019 arrest and subsequent death at age 66. “These affairs had nothing to do with my interactions with Epstein, but they were painful for my family.”
Gates continued, noting that “the public can now see” — after the Department of Justice released the so-called Epstein Files in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act — what the late billionaire sex trafficker was attempting.
“Epstein was working to use information about my infidelities — in addition to many lies that he layered on top — to pressure me to re-engage with him,” Gates alleged. “He was unsuccessful in this effort, but it shows some of the ways he tried to leverage his interactions with me to further his agenda.”
Gates was married to wife Melinda French Gates for 27 years. They announced their split in May 2021.
One batch of Epstein Files, released this past January, included an unsent email from Epstein alleging that Gates had contracted a sexually transmitted infection after sleeping with “two Russian” girls.
Gates denied Epstein’s claims in a February statement, noting that his relationship with the late criminal “had nothing to do with that kind of behavior.”
“Apparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent,” he told an Australian news outlet at the time. “The email is false. I don’t know what his thinking was there. Was he trying to attack me in some way?”
Gates added, “Every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologize that I did that.”
Gates told lawmakers on Wednesday that he “should never have met with Epstein,” a statement he’s repeated several times publicly since his name was mentioned in the files.
The Microsoft founder made it clear that he “never witnessed nor had any indication that Epstein was engaged in ongoing criminal conduct,” adding that they “never” had a personal relationship.
“I was never interested in that and never reciprocated,” he added, explaining that they only met three times to discuss possible philanthropic work.
By 2014, Gates realized that Epstein “would never deliver on his promises,” so they cut ties.
“I told him we would go no further and stopped communicating or meeting with him,” Gates claimed. “No vehicle for charitable giving was ever created and no funds were raised.”
