Disney’s Haunted Mansion riders told to fend for themselves after ride broke down and trapped them inside theme park mansion

Disney parkgoers had to self-evacuate from one of the theme park’s most popular rides after they were trapped inside.

Riders were forced to squeeze out of their ‘doom buggies’ after the ride stalled due to an electrical malfunction around 11pm on May 27, Disneyland officials told The Orange County Register.

Riders seemed calm as they listened to overhead instructions telling them how to unclip themselves from the ride as all the lights were on inside the Haunted Mansion.

‘Once again, all my guests inside the Haunted Mansion, we can no longer assist you at this time,’ a male Disney worker said.

‘We ask that you get out of your buggy and find the nearest exit.’

The employee went on to tell riders they could find a latch on the ride to release them from their seats as props kept popping up around them.

Riders were seen filing out of the mansion in a single-file line.

All guests were successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported, The Register said.

It is unclear why employees were unable to assist the riders. They were initially told to stay in their seats.

Many social media users who claimed to be former cast members said the procedure is only initiated during an emergency evacuation, such as a fire.

‘I worked at Disneyland and trust me we would never have evacuated anyone alone like that unless it was an extreme emergency,’ one TikTok user wrote.

‘As a former cast member, I have never done an evac like this, something must have been VERY wrong,’ another wrote.

Disney has not confirmed there was an emergency. The Daily Mail has reached out to Disneyland for comment.

A typical evacuation would include a staff member walking along the track and manually releasing passengers from their seats.

In March, five Disney employees were rushed to the hospital over a hazmat situation.

The employees were in the backstage area of the Star Tours ride and said they were experiencing minor pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness.

Building materials being used by a contractor backstage ‘produced a reaction’, including shortness of breath and dizziness, in employees, a Disney spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

Sutter said no guests were affected. All five employees were taken to a local hospital, and others were treated by paramedics at the park, the spokesperson said.

Because of the emergency, nearby guests were cleared from nearby onstage areas.
