The ‘Reclaim project’ has introduced an innovative portable recycling plant designed to process waste efficiently in remote areas. Developed with support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, this AI-powered system is set to transform recycling by providing automated, on-site material recovery. The initial deployment will occur in the Greek Islands, where fluctuating waste levels and limited infrastructure pose significant recycling challenges.
This cutting-edge solution features robotic sorting technology and AI-driven material recognition, allowing for precise separation and recovery of plastics and other recyclables. Housed within a transportable container, the plant can be deployed in locations with limited waste management infrastructure, including rural areas, tourist destinations, and large-scale events. Aimplas, a key project participant, has ensured that the system meets operational requirements while optimizing efficiency and adaptability.
The Reclaim project supports a circular economy by enabling local-scale recycling, reducing environmental impact and increasing material reuse. This portable technology represents a significant step forward in sustainable waste management, offering a flexible and scalable approach to recycling.
