Most ATS don’t have AI that outright auto-rejects resumes on its own. The myth that an AI bot is silently tossing your resume is overstated—rejections usually come from recruiter-set rules like knockout questions, minimum match scores, or hard filters for things like location or certifications. Only about 8% of recruiters turn on content-based auto-rejection.
That said, several systems use AI for screening, scoring, and ranking that can effectively bury or deprioritize low-scoring resumes so humans never see them:
- Eightfold AI — Stands out for deep-learning AI that scores candidates on skills and fit, sometimes using external data. It’s been sued over how it ranks people without their knowledge.
- hireEZ — AI resume screening and matching that analyzes applications as they come in.
- Workday — Has AI features for scoring; its parser is notoriously picky with formatting, which can make resumes disappear.
- Ashby — Lets recruiters set AI-assisted criteria to filter or surface candidates quickly.
Popular ones like Greenhouse, Lever, and basic ATS mostly rely on keywords and human-configured filters rather than fancy AI judgment. The 75% rejection stat you hear is real, but it’s more about bad formatting, missing keywords, or failing basic requirements than some sentient AI hating your resume.
Bottom line: Tailor for keywords and clean formatting, and you beat most of the automated gates.
