Northern Territory Police have arrested Jefferson Lewis, the man investigators believe abducted and killed five-year-old Sharon Granites.
NT Police on Thursday evening confirmed the arrest of Lewis, who has spent the last five days on the run.
A vigilante group tracked down and beat Lewis, who was hiding at Charles Creek Camp.
Lewis was rushed to Alice Springs Hospital under police escort, arriving before 10pm ACST.
The news comes just hours after officers discovered the little girl’s remains.
The shattering discovery was made on day five of one of the Northern Territory’s biggest searches, located just 5km from where she was allegedly abducted at Old Timers town camp on Anzac Day.
Police earlier issued a chilling warning to Lewis as they ramped up their manhunt, saying: ‘We’re coming for you.’
More to come…
