I’ve been obsessed with creepy things since I was a kid, and one concept that has always fascinated me is the Backrooms. So when the Backrooms film came out in May, trust me, I was sat.
The idea of “Backrooms” stems from an anonymous 4chan post in 2019. It’s an imaginary dimension like ours, but slightly off. It’s desolate, but the threat of mysterious entities lurks around every corner.
What makes the Backrooms so scary is the uncanny look. It looks like a place we’ve been before, or maybe we’ve only seen it in our dreams…
Many places in our world have this feeling. Maybe it’s because of the off-putting coloring, the fluorescent lighting, or the lack of people. Whatever it is, people stumble across these spooky places and share them on r/LiminalSpace.
Here are a few particularly unsettling examples:
1.
An eerily yellow locker room.
3.
This person’s ominous mall.
4.
The slide at this mall is lowkey funny, but still creepy.
5.
If this was my school’s hospital, I’d transfer.
7.
A JCPenney closing down.
8.
This abandoned corporate park.
9.
Wherever the hell this is.
10.
The darkness looks never ending…
12.
This lone passenger’s view of the ferry.
13.
This bare event hall.
14.
Something about all these empty chairs is really doing it for me.
15.
Okay, I’ll stop with the chairs for now…
16.
This hotel that is scary af both inside AND out.
17.
Another creepy hotel POV.
18.
And the most liminal hotel ever.
19.
These fluorescent lights are criminal.
20.
A house that is equally as nostalgic as it is unsettling.
21.
I love and hate this at the same time.
22.
The one time I’ll accept my mom saying, “We have food at home.”
23.
A rollercoaster from hell.
24.
A waterpark from hell.
25.
I’d actually rather die than go on this slide.
26.
This photo taken in Venice.
27.
This person’s view on their drive to the airport.
28.
This person’s church.
33.
Which is worse: Turning around or opening this door?
35.
An exit that I will be taking immediately, thank you very much.
