As someone with a 34D bra size, shopping for spring and summer dresses can sometimes feel a little bleak. There are so many sundresses with thin straps, crisscross straps or no straps at all – cute, absolutely, but can I actually wear them without having my bra straps on full display? The answer is usually no, unless I opt for a bra that offers little support and leaves me uncomfortable all day, and honestly, very few dresses are cute enough for that sacrifice.
So when I realized that bra-free dresses were starting to become a thing, I knew I had to try them out. Weary but a little hopeful, I bought a cute tank dress with a built-in bra. To be honest, I went in with low expectations, assuming that it either wouldn’t feel supportive enough or would just smush everything together in an unattractive way. To my pleasant surprise, I found that not only was the dress comfortable and supportive, but it actually gave me a little bit of a lift. Now, I’m obsessed – and I’m sharing my favorites below.
13 Spring Dresses You Don’t Need to Wear a Bra With
1. My Favorite: My first bra-free dress remains my favorite. This tank dress has a built-in bra that actually feels so comfortable, along with built-in shorts that don’t restrict your movement. I love that it’s casual enough for everyday wear, too.
2. Runner-Up: This versatile midi dress can be dressed down with sneakers or look more elevated with heels. I love the built-in bra that actually features supportive cups, and the adjustable straps that are great for a short torso like mine.
3. Workout Ready: This open-back athletic dress is the kind of dress I could never wear if it didn’t have a built-in bra. This one has removable pads for more adjustable coverage and a tight fit to keep everything in place.
4. So Romantic: With small cap sleeves and a low neckline, it’s not easy to find the right bra for this midi dress. Fortunately, it has a built-in bra that holds everything up, so you can feel just as light and airy as this looks.
5. Everyday Chic: I love that this mini dress features both a built-in bra and shorts for extra comfort and functionality. It also has a cute flouncy skirt and ruched bodice that makes it extra flattering.
6. Keep It Simple: Perfect for an everyday look or easy enough to dress up for brunch, this mini dress features a dipped waist and adjustable straps with a built-in bra. Plus, it comes in petite and tall sizes too.
7. Rich Mom Vibe: Channel a chic mom on her way home from pickleball with this high-neck athleisure dress. This one specifically offers enough support for C and D cups, with a buttery soft fabric and a tighter fit that just feels good.
8. Easy Breezy: I love this flowy tank dress because it lets you feel so comfortable, especially on a hot day. Rather than just bra pads, this one has a kind of sports bra-like fit inside that offers support and functionality.
9. Denim Dream: This strappy denim dress is another one I could never wear without some sort of built-in support. Fortunately, this one has exactly that, with a seam-in bra with removable cups.
10. Sunny Sundress: The super thin straps on this printed sundress make it hard to wear with any bra with straps, which is why I love that it has the built-in option. There are removable pads and an elastic liner for support.
11. Fun Florals: Square necklines can be surprisingly tricky with most bras, so I appreciate that this floral sundress has a built-in padded bra with an elastic underbust band. It’s comfortable and so easy to throw on any day.
12. Dress Up or Down: The seam-in bra in this maxi dress makes it easy to wear without stress. It also has a clasp in the back that offers a tighter and more supportive fit around the bust area.
13. Feeling Formal: Made of a pretty faux silk material with gold hardware, this maxi dress feels formal enough for a wedding or special event. The seam-in bra makes it totally possible to skip any other kind of bra, too.
