10 Things I Hate About You star Andrew Keegan is opening up about the reality of the residual checks he receives from some of his hit 1990s projects.

Keegan, 47, got candid about how much he's still being paid from his appearance in the iconic teen film, among other projects, when he appeared on The McBride Rewind podcast hosted by Josh McBride on May 7.

“Do you get good residual checks cause of all these things, continuously running,” McBride asked the actor of his numerous fan-favorite roles.

"I think it's really funny, cause I'll get, different shows obviously, but I'll get one cent checks," Keegan replied. "It costs like 40 cents to send in the mail…”

He then noted that sometimes he does not even check which project the one-cent checks are for, since the small amount is "not worth my time.”

Keegan went on to share which project he receives the largest residuals for: 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You, the teen rom-com loosely based on William Shakespeare's comedy The Taming of the Shrew, in which he starred opposite Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and more.

“But yeah, we get residuals, you know—I think 10 Things are probably the biggest checks still, but there are still residuals that come from all those shows," Keegan added, noting that the small checks are often as little as $10, but can range to as much as $80.

After Keegan played popular playboy Joey Donner in the 1999 film, he went on to star in The Broken Hearts Club in 2000 opposite Justin Theroux, Jennifer Coolidge and more before landing TV roles in Full House, 7th Heaven, House and more.

Keegan previously told PEOPLE in 2024 at 90s Con that he is still recognized most for his role in 10 Things.

At the time, he defended his character Joey as multi-dimensional.

"There was still something sweet about Joey, that lovable kind of quality that I was recognizing," Keegan told PEOPLE. "We bring ourselves as actors to the roles, there's a little piece of us in the roles. And I think I'm sweet."
